Easy Mai Tai Recipe

Easy Mai Tai Recipe
The garnish is everything.

Presenting … one of the most famous cocktails in Tiki culture! We fell in love with this winning drink after our trip to Tahiti Nui (in Hanalei, on the island of Kauai). Brian perfected this easy mai tai recipe when we returned home from the island.

Supposedly (and fittingly), the name was taken from the Tahitian word maita’i (meaning ‘good’ or ‘excellent’).

As with many cocktails, there is some dispute over who first created the iconic drink. According to Wikipedia, Victor J. Bergeron takes credit for having conceived it at Trader Vic’s in 1944. Meanwhile, Donn Beach claims to have created it in 1933.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz white rum
  • 1 oz Plantation original dark rum
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz pineapple juice
  • 3/4 oz cointreau
  • 3/4 oz orgeat

Instructions

Crush ice. Add all to cocktail shaker with crushed ice. Shake for 5 seconds. Pour into glass. Top with dark rum float. Garnish with lime wheel. Enjoy!
