Getting to the Pacific Surfliner from SAN airport
The convenient San Diego Flyer offers free shuttle access from the San Diego airport. It picked us up right outside baggage claim and dropped us at the station, where we boarded a comfortable train that took us up the coast to our destination: Oceanside, California. A few days later, we took the (longer) trip on the Pacific Surfliner (riding business class) from Oceanside to Los Angeles Union Station.
Looking back, it would have been a much cheaper trip to take the Coaster from San Diego to Oceanside. But live and learn; it was still worth every penny to be car-free.
Free Snacks
A business class comes with a free beverage (they offer wine and beer in addition to soft drinks) and the much coveted snack box. On our trip, the snack box included hummus, cheese, crackers, nuts, a beef stick, dried organic apple crunchables, and brownie brittle.
If you can, snag a seat on the side of the train that will offer up the stellar ocean views. We were traveling on Memorial Day weekend so those seats were all full when we boarded, but on a normal day it shouldn’t be a problem.
