Best Sandwich of NYC: the Delight at Court Street Grocers

The Delight sandwich from Court Street Grocers

Occasionally, I get down on NYC. I was feeling this way after returning from New York’s nemesis (sunny, laid back California). Then I reminded myself, “Self … you live in New York City. No one does food better than New York City. So stop whining and get yourself something delectable for lunch.” So I did what any hungry New Yorker would do: I Googled “best sandwich in NYC.” After perusing a few listicles, I settled on ordering the Delight from this magical sandwich shop.

It’s an unassuming shop, and since COVID, there’s no indoor seating anymore. However, it’s only two blocks from Washington Square Park. That means you can take your sandwich to go, find a park bench, and enjoy your sammy while listening to the (free!) live music.

As far as which sandwich to get at Court Square Grocers: I settled on “The Delight.” Though I know the corned beef is supposed to be legendary, turkey is more my speed, and I’m pleased to report it was divine. According to the menu, the Delight includes: corned beef or turkey, swiss, coleslaw, guss’ full sour pickles, come-back sauce, on orwashers rye bread. I chose to wash it down with some good, old fashioned Dr. Brown’s diet cream soda.
