Sam Brocato Salon Review

Me at Sam Brocato Salon

Discovering Sam Brocato

I first discovered Sam Brocato’s salon in May of 2010. I was working at Google at the time, and the salon was offering a generous neighborhood discount to Google’s employees. Thanks to excellent reviews and a want to level up my hair style from the Aveda salon I’d been frequenting for the last several years, I decided to give Sam Brocato a try. Fast forward twelve years? I’m still a loyal, happy customer.

The Space

The salon is located in SoHo, one of New York City’s trendiest neighborhoods.

The staff is always happy to offer a variety of beverages and snacks. They all come individually wrapped and portioned since the pandemic. Additionally, the drinks are served in cans with eco-friendly straws.

The Talent

In 2017, when I decided to go short, I received a haircut from Sam himself. He advised me on finding the sweet spot in length between my inspiration Michelle Williams photos and a cut that would jive with my face shape and hair texture. It is, in my opinion, one of the best cuts I’ve had in my life. It was a fun treat witnessing Sam’s talent and precision in person, as well as getting the chance to chat with him about his business/passion/life’s calling.

For the last few years, I’ve been seeing (and seen firsthand the extraordinary talents) Jessica Delfin for my chin- to shoulder-length bobs. She works Wednesdays and Thursdays, has an exquisite personality (she recently started a real estate business FYI if you’re in the market for new digs), and always understands my clumsy shorthand of what I’m looking to do with my hair.

I tend to stick with Jessica for my cuts. However, I’ve seen a variety of colorists over the years (Mary, Marisa, Diana, Jennifer, and Mimi), and they all do A+ work.

The Products

In addition to a beautiful salon with stellar staff, Sam also created his own line of natural hair products: Together Beauty. I’ve tried most of them, and found one of my all time standouts to be Whatever, Whenever, a lovely, lightweight leave-in conditioner.
